BUKIT MERTAJAM: The MCA has slammed Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng over several huge projects pledged to Penang in the last general election but which have yet to materialise.
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said the Pakatan Rakyat-ruled state government had talked about developing an international golf resort and an underground tunnel but even its related studies had not been carried out.
“Then, there was talk about converting leasehold land to freehold, which affects many Penangites.
“This did not materialise as well,” he said after opening the Bukit Mertajam MCA division’s new office in Jalan Usahaniaga here yesterday.
Dr Chua added that the state government also had plans to ease traffic congestion in Penang and was considering a monorail system but nothing had been finalised.
Now, with the general election approaching, he said Lim had announced a mega project worth about RM8bil in the form of a proposed third link between George Town and Butterworth.
“I hope Penangites understand that these are mere political tactics.
“It is difficult to trust the promises made by the state government,” he said.
