SPAD set up office in Penang

GEORGETOWN, 16 Sept 2012: PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has agreed to the state Barisan Nasional's (BN) proposal for a Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) branch office to be set up here. State BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow said the proposal was mooted as the traffic problem in Penang remained very serious.

"Over the weekends, you can see the high volume of traffic.

"We told Najib that we need SPAD here to resolve the transport issues here and he said this can be done." Teng was speaking at a Malaysia Day carnival and dinner here on Sunday night.

It was organised by Hng Chee Wey and Quah Kooi Heong's service teams. More than 700 people attended the dinner, held at the SK Padang Tembak here. Teng said the state BN wanted a concrete plan so that the traffic problems in the state could be resolved.

"At the moment, there is no concrete plan. The state government said their hands are tied and they cannot do anything.” "Everything is pushed to the Federal Government.”

"The thing is, planning always comes from the state.” "If you need federal help, negotiate with them," he said, in reference to how the previous administration pushed for Rapid Penang.

Teng is also seeking the help of Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon in reinforcing the proposal, which was mooted last week. SOURCE: NST
